Grant Requests & Applications 

  • Grants applications are due February 28, 2020, by 11:59 pm
  • Grant requests can range from $3,000 - $15,000 (this includes collaboration grants)
  • One grant submission accepted per agency
  • Grants awarded in 2020 will be of 1-year duration

Collaboration Grants 

  • Collaboration between and amongst agencies working towards common outcomes will be encouraged, and joint proposals are welcomed
  • Each agency may only apply for one collaboration grant
  • If you are part of a collaboration grant your organization may also apply for a grant for your agency
  • If applying for a collaboration grant, all agencies must be listed on the grant application and appoint a fiscal agent who will be held responsible for the grant application requirements
  • All collaboration grants will adhere to the guidelines and the terms of use


  • Maintain eligibility as a public agency, including Indian tribes and nonprofit private organizations, both secular and faith-based, which serve individuals in Greater Grand Forks Area. This requires that private nonprofit organizations obtain and maintain a 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service
  • Abide by Federal and State laws regarding anti-discrimination, Equal Opportunity, affirmative action, and anti-terrorism
  • Have an administrative structure with defined lines of responsibility, a mission statement, and bylaws
  • Must be an approved partner with a signed partnership agreement.
  • Be financially stable and able to ensure appropriate stewardship of the funds entrusted, perform a regular budgeting process and be able to submit audited financial statements and/or IRS form 990
  • To receive funding, proposed programs must align closely with one or more of the focus areas: Live, Work, Learn
  • Programs/projects must serve participants in Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area
  • Be able to demonstrate the effectiveness of programs and projects through measurable outcomes
  • Be willing to cooperate with collaborative partners and other organizations to meet community goals and create measurable lasting change for individuals in the Greater Grand Forks Area
  • Be willing to fully participate in United Way marketing efforts regarding program/client success
  • Allow United Way the right to use data from all its funded programs at will to "Tell the Story"
  • All grantees will submit written midterm and final reports
  • Funding will be a competitive process based on the potential impact of the program for the community
  • Programs in areas where there is a duplication of work by multiple agencies may be less likely to receive funding
  • Funding for 2020 does not guarantee future funding 
  • All proposals, regardless of the amount requested, will be held to the same principles and practices of accountability

Terms of Use

  • All information supplied to United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area through this grant application is the property of United Way and can be used in accordance with the United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area Partnership Agreement
  • Should programs fail to meet contracted outcomes at the midterm or final evaluations, United Way reserves the right to recall prior funding (and agencies agree to return such prior funding (and agencies agree to return such prior funding upon request) and/or withdraw future funding
